WINTER FORMAL

Students enter through the north doors of the gym, and are greeted with the trappings of a Victorian Christmas party in giant form. There's a painted wall hanging depicting a massive tree, and multiple wooden boxes made to look like giant presents. Students can go over to the first photo op amongst the massive fake presents with the larger than life tree in the background. Tables and chairs are organized in this area, where red carpet squares hide the gym's wooden floor.

Further in, the dance transforms into a winter wonderland, with new wall hangings depicting a snowy castle. The fog machines are at work again, doing their best to hide that this is, in fact, a gym. The dance floor is lit with dreamy blue lights, and for the first few hours plays upbeat music. Later in the evening, the tempo drops for some romantic slow dances. Student Council rented a snow machine, which rains down dry foam on the dancers.

On the far south side, you "enter" the icy palace, with some blue carpet squares covering the floor this time. There are couches (draped in white fabric) to rest on, and a series of white fake trees. This area is cozier and quieter if you're looking for privacy. There's also a second photo op. This one is a series of wooden cut outs that look like a white sleigh being pulled by white horses. When you sit on the bench, it looks like you and your friends are going on a sleigh ride through the moderately convincing snow!

HOW THIS WORKS

  • The dance starts at 7:00 PM and goes until midnight! Student Council started setting things up that afternoon, and it was quite a production. Shop helped with the construction of the plywood decorations.

  • There's a lot of treats and drinks available, as well as a veggie tray. Vegan cupcakes are present.

  • There are two photo op areas! The photos taken will be displayed in the school later so long as no one's flipping off the camera.

  • At 10:00 PM, the White Elephant exchange begins, and after the chaos of stealing and swapping gifts...
